It's not a big space... but it's the only one that will work anywhere on the property, so it is what it is! :)
Greetings. Here is a tiny update for KellyKCA (by request on Twitter) of my 2 foot by 20 feet 'garden' space in the back yard. That hill is about 85% pure stone with only a smattering of clay to cover - just enough for some weeds to thrive. But I've put gardens in all over the USA so we'll see how I do tackling a mountain this time!
It's unfortunate that our yard gets very little sun but I'm hoping it's enough to grow a few things. You can see the sun is already waning in the photo - and this was just after 1:pm! I should be able to get about 3 hours sun a day... again, we'll see if it's enough to grow some tomato's, jalapenos, cucumbers, etc. (No root vegetables as my soil and compost isn't deep enough and the carrots would hit pure rock and end up shaped like little orange turnips! Ha).
Edited to add:
Joe - that is a good thing to know. My 'plan' is that I will try it as a vegetable garden and see if I get enough sunlight to grow some things. But ultimately, when the time comes to sell this house, I'll plant flowers and a few bushes. I know it could be really pretty - but I'm going to try the tomatoes and peppers first. Oh~ and I've been meaning to answer your question from last week. My 'truck' is an SUV so I can't actually use it to haul things like rock or soil. But I can get the bags for a buck or so, and I just got 20 of them, which filled it perfectly and it was easy to transport in the back of my 'truck'. :)

The place we had just before the divorce was like that. The local realtor we used called it the "dark side". Grew great rhododendrons, they loved the shade. I terraced the front of the house and tried to grow other things without much luck. We received sun from April 1st to about October 1st for about six hours a day, but I didn't bring in enough soil since what was there was mostly gravel. Given a couple more years I might have built it up, but c'est la vie. I'm sure you'll do great.
