Return and Report - Friday Grocery Shopping Amid the Chaos of Coronavirus... Hmm... we look like we are a Socialist country!

While I went out to get 'groceries' for while our out of town guests are here as well as some last minute fresh items I needed for the big event I'm hosting this Sunday, my plan was to pick up some toilet tissue if I happened upon it, since I hadn't figured that in to my last regular purchase.

Not a square to be had anywhere I went today.   Talking to a manager at one DIY warehouse, they said all their TP orders are 'canceled' because the warehouses are completely out so there literally is none to deliver.

What surprised me more than that though was everything else that was now out compared to what was stocked just 3 days ago when I was shopping with my daughter.  Today it wasn't just toilet paper and paper towels... it was... well, let me brainstorm a minute.

This is just off the top of my head at Sam's Club

  • Toilet Paper
  • Paper Towels
  • Baby Wipes
  • Flour
  • Flour Tortillas
  • Thin sliced beef for fajitas
  • Sugar
  • Roasts
  • Bleach
  • Lysol Spray
  • Lysol and Clorox Wipes
  • Other meats
  • Peppers
  • Potatoes
  • Bread
  • Onions
There was probably more but I wasn't specifically paying attention to remember a list.  I was just noticing as I walked by, or because one of my daughters called while I was shopping and mentioned she was heading to Walmart tonight after work to get peppers, fajita meat, tortillas, etc. to serve to her out of town guests tomorrow night.

I went to a couple different stores today and sure enough, empty shelves everywhere.

But as I stood in the grocery store looking down the entire aisle of empty shelves I was reminded of all the news stories I've watched and read over the past couple years of the horror of food and sanitary supply shortages in Socialist countries; especially Venezuela as I kept picturing the country it used to be before they came under the power of the United Socialist Party and Socialism ruined their entire economy and country.

Does this photo of the empty shelves in socialist Venezuela look eerily like our shelves right now amid this virus pandemic chaos?

Capitalism vs socialism: lessons from Chile and Venezuela

"Venezuela’s experiment with socialism has been a resounding failure. The annual inflation is more than 80,000 percent and it is estimated that almost 90 per cent of Venezuelans now live in poverty.

Mass food shortages mean that the average Venezuelan has lost over 11kg in weight, despite Maduro’s own waistline continuing to expand. The government’s murder squads fanned out throughout the capital, assassinating the ruling regime’s opponents. However, it’s important to remember that conditions in Venezuela haven’t always been this tragic....."

History has shown us time and time again... Socialism fails.
Always.
I wonder if our empty shelves and toilet paper apocalypse will open anyone's eyes?
