Coffee Talking: My outgoing answer machine message circa 1995-ish - Sorry I'm not home right now I'm walking into spiderwebs So leave a message and I'll call you back A likely story, but leave a message And I'll call you back

I always have music playing in my head.  A song or chorus or even a jingle playing over and over.  Always.  I assumed everyone was like this but apparently they aren't... ha ha.  Anyway!

Since yesterday afternoon I can hear Gwen Stefani during her No Doubt days singing about spiderwebs...

You think that we connect
That the chemistry's correct
Your words walk right through my ears
Presuming I like what I hear

And now I'm stuck in the
The web you're spinning
You've got me for your prey

Sorry I'm not home right now
I'm walking into spiderwebs
So leave a message and I'll call you back
A likely story, but leave a message
And I'll call you back

Yeah, so yesterday there was a big spider that had spun it's web outside near the front door.  I was trimming a tree and the web broke (it was attached) and later, when I went out to wait for one of my daughter's to come home, I was sitting on the step and noticed the spider had spun a new one across the landing.  I told my daughter to be careful as she was walking into spiderwebs... (cue the music) and then got a branch and waved it in front of her to remove the web so she could walk up the stairs to the door.

A random coffee-chat memory also connected to that song...

When I was a newlywed and living in Southern California, my best friend and I liked to use music on our answer machines (yes, before cellphones).  She had done it and I loved it, so I did as well.  You find a chorus or song you like, play a little clip when the phone answers and then start your message "Hey!  You've reached blah blah blah... leave a message!"

We had something like this on our machine for just a few weeks before I erased it and went with a boring regular message (after my parents called and my Dad complained he couldn't understand the song anyway...).

But later, in 1995-ish (?) when this song came out, I thought the chorus was perfect for a machine so I again (briefly) used;

Sorry I'm not home right now
I'm walking into spiderwebs
So leave a message and I'll call you back
A likely story, but leave a message

And I'll call you back

 - as our outgoing message.

I liked it for about a day (?) before I erased it and went back to the "hello, you've reached...." message but whenever I hear this song randomly play on the radio or on my MP3, I always picture the chorus as an outgoing message on an answer machine.

:)

And with that, I'm out of time (and coffee) and must rush to get dressed and get out the door on time!
