Charity Watch rates Catholic Relief Services with an A+ rating.

Today's post is rather unintentional.  I honestly didn't expect to post at all.  However, I was skimming through some social media and saw a post by the organization Catholic Relief Services.

This is what caught my attention - go ahead and read and I'll explain in a moment.

What caught my attention was not that they were just an organization throwing money at a situation or lining their own pockets - or trying to 'help' for the attention, but that this story pointed out something that is sorely needed:  instruction and education.

I started to ponder a bit, while I sipped my chai tea....  these are groups of people without the knowledge or instruction to do something as simple as 'save'.  How to sell needed items at their local markets, and then manage the money.  We learn that here by our culture, our families and our schools.  In many countries there is no culture of saving, of putting education at a priority, or how (like the article states) to prepare healthy meals for their children...  we have that knowledge saturating our society.  They do not.

I realized that organizations like Catholic Relief Services and other charities that actually go past just throwing money at a situation to get the press, are helping in ways that are long lasting.  That will be taught to next generations as the children now grow up with parents who are learning about nutrition, finances, saving, education and more.

It's also good to look up a charities ratings - this one in particular gets a A+.

If you need a trustworthy source to donate to the Ukraine families in crisis, this looks to be a good one.

From their website: CRS

Your help is urgently needed for families from Ukraine.

More than 3.8 million people are fleeing for their lives to neighboring countries—leaving behind homes, jobs and everything familiar.

There is great risk of additional suffering both within Ukraine and for those who are fleeing to neighboring countries for safety. CRS and Caritas partners on the ground and need immediate support to meet both ongoing needs as the situation intensifies.

With your gift, families in Ukraine and the surrounding countries receive food, clothing, transport to safe shelter, cash assistance, counseling and care for children.

Years of conflict along the eastern border had already displaced 1.3 million people from their homes and claimed 14,000 lives and now 2.3 million people have fled Ukraine. Almost ninety percent of the refugees are women and children. Throughout this time, Caritas Ukraine, with support from CRS, has been providing emergency relief and recovery—and now help is needed more than ever.

The situation there is rapidly unfolding, and we could not do this work without your support. When you donate, you provide immediate assistance for your Ukrainian sisters and brothers affected by this crisis.
