🚨BREAKING:
Federal prosecutors have charged 12 California residents with trying to
defraud the American healthcare system by running sham hospice
facilities, creating fake medical claims, and devising other fraud
schemes.
Seven of the 12 Californians charged by the DOJ have been arrested, and the total cost of their alleged fraud is estimated to be tens of millions of dollars, according to the Justice Department.
The arrests are the latest black eye for California's healthcare system under Gov. Gavin Newsom, who faces a House investigation into rampant hospice fraud in the state and broader questions about billions in losses across Medi-Cal and other state programs.
