An attorney celebrated by the Obama White House for campaigning against violence toward women is now facing nine criminal charges over an alleged yearlong campaign of abuse and intimidation against his girlfriend.
Cody McDavis, 32, the 6-foot-8 former University of Northern Colorado basketball standout who later earned a law degree from UCLA and joined the firm Vedder Price, was charged on July 20 with six felony counts and three misdemeanors.

The Justice Department on Tuesday charged 19 defendants in alleged Philadelphia-area schemes that generated more than $4 million in fraudulent Medicare and Medicaid claims, while expanding its Northeast Health Care Fraud Strike Force into the city.
The defendants include home health aides, Medicaid recipients, and owners and employees of home care companies, according to the DOJ’s announcement. Officials alleged that some billed Medicaid for services that were never provided, including care purportedly delivered while aides or recipients were incarcerated, hospitalized, traveling overseas, or working other jobs.

Moderna’s mRNA flu vaccine gets an FDA decision August 5th. And you’re about to see one number everywhere: 26.6%.
But here’s what that number actually means.
The 26.6% figure is a relative comparison. It does not mean 26.6% of people were protected from flu. It means the mRNA vaccine reduced confirmed influenza-like illness by 26.6% compared with the standard-dose flu vaccine used in the trial.
The absolute difference was much smaller:
About 2.0% of people who received Moderna’s mRNA vaccine developed laboratory-confirmed influenza-like illness, compared with 2.8% in the comparison group.
That’s roughly 8 fewer cases per 1,000 people vaccinated.
The trial did show a statistically significant advantage over the standard flu shot. But it was not a placebo-controlled trial, and it did not compare vaccinated people with an unvaccinated group. It was designed to answer one question: does this new vaccine outperform an existing flu vaccine?
Participants were followed for a median of about six months, covering a single flu season. Longer-term protection and safety data are not know and will come from continued surveillance and future studies.
