Early on in our marriage (maybe 2 years in) I was working a part time job from 2-5 pm. I left the house around 1:30 for work. My spouse was working the earlier shift at work from 5am-2pm and got home around 3:30 each day.
I was busy doing all-the-things and rushed to get ready for work, but had put eggs in water to boil, to make hard boiled eggs. I put them on high and went into the bedroom to prepare for work. The bedroom and bathroom are on the opposite side of the house, with the garage door and front door both in areas you don't go near or through the kitchen to get to. So I got ready for work and left... totally forgot about the eggs left on the stove.
Later that afternoon, while at work, I got a call.... my spouse had just gotten home from work and entered a house FILLED with smoke. Found a dry pan, burnt black on the stove, black smoke rolling through the house, the alarm going off and found EXPLODED EGG all over the walls and ceiling.
The egg remaining in the pan had turned to ash and charcoal.
THAT is what happens to eggs when left to boil dry. They explode and the remnants catch fire and turn to ash.

In Minot, North Dakota, Ina Thea Kenoyer was sentenced to prison after poisoning her longtime partner, Steven Edward Riley Jr., with antifreeze following a fake $30 million inheritance claim. Riley had received an email saying he was set to inherit a fortune from a distant relative, but the inheritance turned out to be an online scam.
Believing the money was real, Riley planned to leave Kenoyer, who falsely believed she was entitled to a share as his common-law wife. Authorities said Kenoyer poisoned his drink after he met with someone claiming to be an estate lawyer. Riley became ill on September 3, 2023, was found unresponsive the next day, and died on September 5, 2023.
Investigators and family members later confirmed the $30 million inheritance never existed, meaning the crime was committed over a fake fortune. Kenoyer pleaded guilty to intentional m*rder with extreme indifference.
She received a 50-year sentence with 25 years suspended, leaving her to serve 25 years in prison followed by 10 years of supervised probation.
