Chicago Alderman William Hall is calling for Walgreens to face criminal charges for closing stores due to rampant shoplifting.
In
a press conference, he stated that the company should be charged with
“first-degree corporate abandonment” and declared, “It should be a crime
the way they’re treating our elders… it should be a crime the way
they’re treating our families.”
Instead of addressing the theft crisis driving businesses out, Hall is targeting the stores themselves for leaving.
The
comments have sparked widespread mockery online, with many pointing out
the absurdity of punishing companies for not wanting to be looted.
